Oxygen
Oxygen is a chemical element with the symbol O and atomic number 8. It is a highly reactive non – metal and a member of the chalcogen group on the periodic table. Under standard temperature and pressure, two oxygen atoms combine to form dioxygen (O₂), a colorless, odorless, and tasteless diatomic gas that makes up approximately 21% of the Earth’s atmosphere. Oxygen is essential for the respiration of most living organisms, as it plays a crucial role in the process of cellular respiration, where it is used to release energy from organic compounds.
